Geese and Barn

(77-30)

Because I am not a full-time photographer, I often find myself constrained in my photographic endeavors by both time and money. As a result, the vast majority of my pictures are taken close to home, and sometimes with improvised materials. Generally I try to fit photography in around the family schedule, which means I have an hour or two before the kids get up in the morning or while they’re napping in the afternoon to go on my “photo trips.” This picture was taken during one such afternoon adventure early in the spring of 2006. I went out driving just looking for a photo opportunity, and I found this flock of geese searching for whatever scarce nourishment they could find left on the field near this barn after a long winter. The day was mostly overcast, adding a barren and gloomy mood to the image.
